Mulberry tree bark
The branches of the mulberry shrubs are harvested in the autumn, and the innermost layer of bark (white bark) is stripped from the timber and boiled in a mixture of water and soda ash. The strips are then beaten by hand until they have been well separated.
The diffuser is formed by hand sewing each of the prepared clusters of fiber to a cotton grid, which has been fastened to the base structure.
The colour of the material is a soft white that yellows a little with age. To clean diffusers in this material, we recommend that they be dusted or lightly vacuumed.

Ango Story

HARNN CentralWorld:
Bespoke Sculptural Lighting by Ango
Ango x Din Studio
For HARNN’s concept store at CentralWorld, Bangkok, Ango collaborated with DIN Studio to create a bespoke lighting installation above the main counter. Inspired by water lily petals, the composition brings a soft, organic presence to the retail interior—a place where material, handcraft and light become part of the brand experience.

HARNN’s interpretation of contemporary Thai heritage finds expression through its approach to wellbeing, fragrance and design. Within this setting, the lighting offers a quiet connection to nature, giving the counter a distinct identity while remaining part of the wider interior.
From Material to Bespoke Sculptural Light
The petal forms began with material exploration: how could fabric be shaped into a sculptural element while retaining its delicacy?
Ango developed the forms using a hybrid fabric combining natural and synthetic fibres with non-toxic silicone. Each petal was shaped by hand, allowing its contours to emerge through the making process. The resulting composition draws on the character of a water lily without becoming a literal reproduction.

For Ango, this is where bespoke lighting begins: understanding the character of an interior, then exploring how light and handmaking can give that character a physical form.

A Focal Point Shaped for the Interior
Positioned above the main counter, the installation gives the space a clear point of focus. Its petal forms introduce an organic rhythm, bringing a sense of softness to the counter and the surrounding retail setting.
The collaboration with DIN Studio placed the lighting in conversation with the interior from the outset. Rather than treating the piece as an isolated object, its material and form were developed as part of the experience of the space.
For Ango, this is where bespoke lighting begins: understanding the character of an interior, then exploring how light and handmaking can give that character a physical form.

Considered Materials and Making
The HARNN installation brings together an LED light source, a stainless steel support structure and individually hand-shaped elements. Each material has a specific role, from supporting the composition to giving the petals their sculptural expression.
This approach reflects Ango’s continuing exploration of how materials can be transformed through craft. Here, the combination of fabric and silicone opens a different possibility for sculptural lighting, shaped around the needs and identity of a particular project.
